DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Family Sangha\, sponsored by Sacramento Dharma Center with the support of Sacramento Buddhist Meditation Group\, Valley Streams Zen Sangha\, and Sacramento Insight Meditation. \nOn SATURDAY July 27\, Family Sangha will meet at the playground of Soil Born Farms. 2140 Chase Dr\, Rancho Cordova\, CA. The playground is just past the Farm Stand and Kids’ Garden. Look for the event host\, Ian\, who will be wearing a shirt with mango prints on it for easy identification! We will explore how farm plants and animals grow\, change\, and nourish us\, and become aware\, close up\, of our interdependence with the natural world. \nTime: Saturday (not Sunday!)\, July 27. 10 AM–12 PM. Please arrive 15–20 minutes early to allow time for parking and walking to the playground. \nSoil Born Farms\, a nonprofit urban agriculture and education project\, is open to the public on Saturdays from 8am-3pm. Following the Family Sangha event\, you and your family may linger\, wander around\, buy food at the café\, and buy produce at the farm stand. DESCRIPTION:Hozan Alan Senauke will lead a discussion on the future among all our sanghas and the Sacramento Dharma Center.  Bring your questions\, concerns\, and thoughts about YOUR vision of the future of the Sacramento Dharma Center. Hozan is also a musician\, and as a bonus\, promises some musical entertainment! \nHozan Alan Senauke has been an engaged Buddhist activist for many years.  He is currently Abbot of the Berkeley Zen Center and was the director of Buddhist Peace Fellowship for many years.  Alan was a founder of Think Sangha\, a group of writers and intellectuals that are affiliated with the BPF and the International Network of Engaged Buddhists. Think Sangha is a group of individuals who meet to identify some of the most pressing social issues that they feel engaged Buddhists should be addressing. He is also the founder of the Clear View Project\, which focuses on social change and relief efforts in Asia\, most recently in Burma.

Meeting on the last Sunday of the month from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm\, this is a great way for children\, parents\, grandparents\, aunts and uncles – the whole family – to learn about and further their dharma practice in a kid-oriented social setting. \nLike all sanghas\, this one operates on dana. This giving can take many forms. The facilitators tell us that this can include\, “helping a bit\, some funds to launch or a monthly contribution so FS could give a stipend to a facilitator\, helping with the admin\, doing art\, yoga\, mindfulness\, stories\, gardening\, with the kids\, all kinds of possibilities.” \nPrior to the pandemic\, Sacramento Buddhist Meditation Group (SBMG)\, one of our co-tenants at SDC\, operated this very popular sangha\, and we are very happy to see that it has returned\, and is now a “mahasangha” monthly event. \nPlease check the SDC event calendar\, or contact Helen Hobart at hdhobart@gmail.com for details.
