Whether you’ve joined us for meditation, a Dharma talk, or a day of practice, you know that Valley Streams Zen Sangha is VSZS is entirely funded by donations and retreat fees from a community of people committed to keeping Zen practice alive here in Sacramento. Regular monthly donors provide the major source of cash flow that covers our expenses.
Just as the rain renews the springs of the earth, monthly donations renew Valley Streams, making the Dharma available to everyone.

Your Support Downstream: The Maitreya Fund
Everything changes ~ the sky, the seasons, you and me. In recognition of this truth, and to plan for future change, we have established this legacy fund with the Sacramento Region Community Foundation. The primary purpose of the fund is to support the resident spiritual leadership of Valley Streams Zen Sangha in perpetuity.
Since the Sangha formed in 2002, our resident teachers have served without financial compensation. This fortunate situation is unlikely to be replicated. To engage a priest/teacher in the future, it will likely be necessary to offer compensation. This is where the Maitreya Fund comes in.
Named for the future Buddha, this fund works like an endowment, an investment that grows over time. The Sacramento Region Community Foundation pools funds from non-profit organizations like ours. The funds are invested in a stock and bond portfolio to enhance their future value. Your contributions to the fund, plus their investment yield, will solely benefit Valley Streams Zen Sangha.
We appeal to those who practice with, or support Valley Streams Zen Sangha, to donate to our Maitreya Fund. Your contributions will serve as a legacy of your life and practice.

Planned Giving:
- Bequest – A future gift. A bequest is one of the easiest ways to make a planned gift. A bequest can be codified in your living trust or will. If you make a bequest, please let us know at info@valleystreamszen.org so we can share our acknowledgement and gratitude.
- Charitable Remainder Trust – Transfer of cash or property to a trust that pays income for your life or a term of years. The remainder goes to the fund.
- IRA Qualified Charitable Donation – A gift to the fund with a “qualified charitable distribution” or “IRA charitable rollover” from your IRA.
